Are You a Candidate for Teeth Whitening?

Most people who are in good oral health but who have teeth that are discolored or dull will be good candidates for teeth whitening. Those with sensitive teeth may not be suitable candidates as the treatment could aggravate their condition.  Likewise, teeth whitening is not recommended for patients with periodontal disease, tooth decay, or other serious oral health issues. Teeth with yellow-toned stains typically respond best to the procedure.

About the Teeth Whitening Procedure

In-office teeth whitening is a quick and immediately effective way to brighten your teeth by multiple shades. During your initial consultation, Dr. Reger will explain the teeth whitening procedure to you in detail and answer any questions you might have. At the beginning of the procedure, your gums will be isolated from your teeth to avoid any potential irritation from the hydrogen-peroxide-based bleaching gel. The gel is then applied to your teeth, and its bleaching properties are activated by exposure to a special light. The gel is rinsed off after about 30 minutes and then reapplied. Most patients repeat this cycle a second time over the course of an appointment lasting about 90 minutes.

We understand that our patients have busy schedules, and squeezing in time at the dentist may be a hassle to some, so we provide an option for at-home teeth whitening. Our practice offers take-home whitening kits that are far more effective than over-the-counter kits.
