General Dentistry for Your Favorite Smiles

If you and your family are in need of a general dentist, you can rely on the expertise of Dr. Chris Reger and our staff. General dentistry includes a vast array of procedures, from preventative treatments to root canal therapy. Whether you need a checkup and cleaning or have a toothache that requires Dr. Reger’s attention, we are prepared to provide you with top-notch service and quality dentistry.

Preventative Care

Our goal is to help you prevent tooth decay, gum disease, infection, and tooth loss. Today, more people than ever are retaining their natural teeth for life, and we want you to join them. In addition to brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and using products containing fluoride, you need to attend dental cleanings and checkups every six months, or as directed. These visits will allow us to find and address dental problems in their earliest stages, when treatment can be most conservative and effective.

Sleep Apnea

If you snore loudly or wake abruptly with coughs or gasps, you may suffer from obstructive sleep apnea. This potentially life-threatening condition causes you to stop breathing multiple times throughout the night. It can often be treated with a simple oral appliance. Without treatment, patients can experience daytime drowsiness, forgetfulness, concentration problems, and other symptoms that negatively impact their quality of life.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Dental fillings restore teeth damaged by decay. For many decades, fillings were made with dark, silver amalgam, but today we prefer to use composite resin. These composite fillings can be tinted to closely match a tooth’s color. Dr. Reger takes pride in crafting tooth-colored dental fillings that look so natural, even patients cannot distinguish them from enamel. Beyond aesthetics, fillings must fit properly with opposing teeth to ensure the patient retains proper occlusion.

Scaling and Root Planing

Roughly half of all Americans suffer from gum disease. This chronic condition is the number-one cause of adult tooth loss. If you have gum disease, treatment is imperative. Your hygienist may recommend a deep cleaning, which involves two procedures: scaling and root planing. By removing plaque and tartar at and below the gum line, scaling eliminates bacteria that cause infection. Root planing involves making tooth roots smooth, which decreases areas for bacteria to accumulate below the gum line in the future.

Root Canal Therapy

When a tooth incurs a deeply penetrating cavity or fracture, bacteria gain access to the tooth’s inner chamber, called the root canal. Once the bacteria reach this area, they create infection in the pulp of the tooth, which contains the tooth’s nerve. At this point, the tooth will die. The only way the patient can avoid extraction is with a successful root canal procedure. With modern microtools and effective anesthesia options, a root canal can be completed comfortably, often in a single visit.

Tooth Extraction

In some cases, teeth require extraction in order to preserve the health of adjacent teeth. Extraction may be recommended to reduce crowding, remove an impacted or irreparable tooth, or to prepare the mouth for dentures. Dr. Reger offers extraction and related procedures in the comfort of our family dental office. Your comfort and peace of mind are our foremost concern during extraction procedures.

Night Guards and Sports Guards

When force is applied abruptly, teeth can break or fracture. Athletes are at high risk for dental injuries, so Dr. Reger offers custom-fitted sports guards that should be a regular part of protective gear. Repeated exposure to forces from grinding teeth creates tiny surface cracks, and can also contribute to malocclusion. If you grind your teeth habitually, Dr. Reger can fabricate a custom-fitted night guard to protect your teeth while you sleep.
